If you haven’t eaten tamales before, then you need this in your life. It’s kind of like the central american version of a pie, but better.
Here’s a pic of how they look when they are served to you:
Mix together the filling (usually cooked meat, spices, and “maseca”, a dough that forms an almost couscous texture). Envelope in banana leaves. Boil. And you may have a scrumptious tamale on your hands!
NB Don’t forget to peel your tamale, removing it’s banana skin, to eat it’s sweet sweet insides.
The first thing I’m going to do when I get home from this trip is find a place that sells tamales. Hmmmm so good!
